Jim Adams got mad hops as he jumped up on a 54 inch box set.  His 10 year old daughter is 53 inches tall.

Check out the mad hops outtakes; they’re pretty funny.

Charles Dao tests Jim Adams on a 45 second 12 inch step up step down. This is a sprint type of exercise that is recruiting fast twitch muscle fibers in order to build speed and quickness.

Foxy boxy April Adams doing the jab, cross, hook, hook combination at Icon Sports Alliance in Murrieta, CA.  April works through a continuum beginning with a jab, cross, all the way through a jab cross hook duck hook.

April and I are pretty different in the way we train. April performs interval training as well as cardio training.  She spends some days on the treadmill for 45 minutes and other days performing high intensity interval training as seen in this video.  Jim Adams, me, trains strictly with high intensity interval exercises.

One of the differences I’ve seen between April and myself is that my anaerobic threshold is higher but she recovers more quickly.  Because of the difference in training methods, I can drain my gas tank more quickly but it takes longer to fill back up.  April drains her tank slightly slower but is quicker to fill up.

iPhone video of April Adams working out with Charles and Jim in Murrieta.  April is rockin’ the foxy boxy with a jab, cross, hook, duck, hook.  This muli-combo works the full body along with increasing anaerobic endurance.  April is in great shape.  She has a strong anaerobic threshold and recovers very quickly.

Charles Dao with Jim Adams doing clean and jerks with a squat with a 67 pound Swiss ball.  The Swiss ball is filled partially with water.  While this movement generates power from your lower body, it also recruits all the tiny stabilizing muscles in order to keep the ball balanced.

This is a great exercise for developing the power to increase your single response box jump.

Rock on!

Jim Adams in Murrieta, CA working out at Icon Sports Performance with trainer Charles Dao – August 25, 2009.  Charles introduced me to freedom jumps with plyo push ups.  This tired me out very quickly.  I was able to do 8 full repititions.  One rep included a jump about 12 inches, then one pull up on each side of the bar, then drop for a plyo push up. That’s one rep.  Full body exhaustion with my biceps really getting smoked.

Jim Adams working out with Charles Dao from Icon Sports Alliance in Murrieta, CA on August 25, 2009.  Doing big tire flips.  This movement recruits fast twitch muscles causing the development of explosive power from the glutes (butt muscles) through the core up through the arms, shoulders and neck.  This a a fantastic overall exercise that will get you more powerful overall while increasing your anaerobic threshold.

This lower body power builder is a great exercise when I’m trying to increase the height on my box jumps. The power generated from this movement is similar to the power needed when performing a single leg box jump.

Jim Adams – Split squat jumps

Jim Adams training in Murrieta, CA at Icon Sports Alliance.  Charles Dao runs a performance studio working with athletes wanting to increase their sports performance.  Charles really knows how to train a body for increased power output.  I’ve been training with Charles for almost three years.  Charles has helped me run faster, jump higher, and kick a football much farther.

Here, I’m performing split squat jumps for 45 seconds.  This is very much an full body workout.  All the exercises I do with Charles are designed to help me increase my power output.  My goal is to dunk a tennis ball on a regulation 10 foot basketball hoop.
